We came home one night in late December to find that construction had finally begun on the Big Bamford garden project.
At the bottom of the house there used to be a large cherry tree that made the back of the house very dark and wet.
The old 1950s concrete path has gone and the old fence is coming down but this picture gives you a good idea about what we started with.
The patio and steps look very new, the garden looks very un-natural in this state and really needs some planting.
The botom half of the garden is almost complete, hopefully the new camellias will form a nice ever-green hedge.
We organised a special digging party to remove the old turf and even out the old surface. The new path then went in ready for the new lawn and planting.
Plants start to go in. The bay tree seems to like its new home, although this is the third time it has been moved. Patty bought it as a gift about 5 years ago when it was only the size of a small stick.
With the lawn in place and some of the new plants going in the garden starts to look a lot greener.
The back bed starts to take shape, with the new bird bath. Our resident family of sparrows take to it straight away.
This shows the garden at the beginning of its second summer. We thought this bed worked very well, as the lupins, fennel and daisys look really good together.
